In tonight’s new episode, Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) is hypnotized, and compelled to answer honestly any question that is put to him. So, of course, the gang lines up to pepper him with questions, about the greatest stories ever told. By Barney, that is. And how much truth is contained therein.

SEASON FINALE: This Fox series deserves credit for expanding past the seemingly narrow premise of its original pilot, without losing the occasionally, intentionally humorous tone that was part of the mix. Well, the show’s gotten all the way to the end of its season, and tonight the trail ends – and begins again – with George Washington’s Bible.

SERIES RETURN: I’m not even going to apologize for enjoying this show. It reminds me of those warmly comforting panel shows of the Sixties, like What’s My Line?, and game shows like Password. Jane Lynch hosts playful, often ridiculous little contests while her celebrity guests try to outdo one another at trivia, charades and other head-to-head contests. For this Season 2 opener, it’s men vs. women, with Julie Bowen from Modern Family, Beth Behrs from 2 Broke Girls and Valerie B

MINISERIES PREMIERE: This three-part miniseries, with Ridley Scott as one of its executive producers, takes place in 1897, following the fervent fever generated by the hope of instant riches in the turn-of-the-century gold rush days. It’s set in Dawson City, though most of the good-looking characters look like residents of Dawson’s Creek. This is Discovery’s first scripted drama, though, so it’s going for sizzle as well as scale, and hoping to succeed with a story that wi

Teams fronted by QBs Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have battled each other 14 times over the years. Brady has won 10, including the last three – most recently the overtime game earlier this season in which the Patriots overcame a 24-point deficit to win in overtime. With a ticket to the Super Bowl on the line, the reputation-enhancing rivalry between these two quarterbacks is intense. Brady has won three Super Bowls, Manning one, and this is a pivotal game for them both in terms of defining

These two NFC teams have been dominating their league all season, so it’s not much of a surprise that they ended up here. But only one team can progress to the Super Bowl, so this battle between two similar teams, run by mobile and aggressive young quarterbacks – Colin Kaepernick for the 49ers and Russell Wilson for the Seahawks – should be tight, and tough, from start to finish.

I’m somewhat surprised by the online backlash to recent events involving the character of Anna (Joanne Froggatt). But trust me – I’ve seen the next several episodes, and what happened to Anna, and how it impacts her relationship with Bates (Brendan Coyle), is not dealt with cavalierly or rapidly. It’s a subplot that earns its place, maintains its weight, and is part of what makes Downton Abbey so compelling in the first place – the unexpected events that befall char

If you liked last week’s premiere of this new limited series starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as two very different detectives – and I hope you did – you should like this week’s installment even more. Both the story and the chararacters are delved into much more deeply, and in more than one time line. For a full review, see Bianculli’s Blog.
