Last year, Craig Ferguson and his cronies went to France for a week of freewheeling, genre-bending talk shows. The week of May 14, he does it again, this time in Scotland. He checks in on his home town of Cumbernauld, and presents some serious interviews, as well as lots of comic nonsense, along the way...

George Harrison: Living in the Material World, the brilliant Martin Scorsese HBO documentary on Beatle George Harrison, is available on DVD and Blu-ray May 1. Scorsese conducted extensive new interviews with Beatles contemporaries Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono; other musicians, such as Eric Clapton; and Harrison's widow, Olivia and son, Dhani. In honor of today's pick in THIS DAY IN TV HISTORY, here are the opening credits to China Beach, the wonderful 1988-91 ABC series that made a star of Dana Delany, playing a combat nurse in Vietnam who thrives on the friendships and meaning, and even chaos, she finds there. And Delany, now the star of the same network's Body of Proof, isn't the only now-familiar face here...

Ah, yes, perhaps the most delightfully deranged show ever aired by Fox or any other network -- the 1996 classic, 'Profit' starring Adrian Pasdar as a corporate climber who gives new meaning to the word sociopath. These promos nicely hint at its dark and droll wit. (Hard to find on out-of-print DVD, but worth the search!)

And now here is your weekend moment of zen . . . actually, a half-hour of zen: Comic innovator Ernie Kovacs' legendarily visual "Eugene" special, made just before his 1962 death. Today, we're used to all kinds of video tricks, but 50 years ago, Ernie was a pioneer, playfully expanding the TV medium with imaginative glee. Take a time trip that continues to delight . . . - DW
