Tom Hanks directed this 2011 romantic comedy, and co-wrote it as well, with Nia Vardalos, who wrote and starred in My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Hanks stars here too, opposite Julia Roberts, and plays a student who is drawn to Roberts’ adult-education teacher.

Harry Lime is dead; long live Harry Lime. Orson Welles plays the mysterious Lime with a twist in this 1949 film noir thriller, starring Joseph Cotton as a friend investigating reports of Lime’s untimely death. Great movie, written by Graham Greene and directed by Carol Reed.

Robert Downey, Jr.’s original Iron Man megahit led to a string of Marvel-based movies starring heroes who, next month, will unite in The Avengers, directed and co-written by Joss Whedon. And one of those heroes – specifically, a heroine – made her first appearance here, in a supporting role in this 2010 Iron Man sequel. She’s Natalie Rushman, a.k.a. Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. the Black Widow – all three of them played by Scarlett Johansson.

Today in 1957, Mike Wallace's late-night New York interview show went national on ABC. Viewers of The Mike Wallace Interview got an early glimpse of the agressive interview style that would become the late newsman's hallmark. His first guest? Hollywood legend Gloria Swanson.

George Harrison: Living in the Material World, the brilliant Martin Scorsese HBO documentary on Beatle George Harrison, is available on DVD and Blu-ray May 1. Scorsese conducted extensive new interviews with Beatles contemporaries Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono; other musicians, such as Eric Clapton; and Harrison's widow, Olivia and son, Dhani. We loved the two-part documentary here, and then, here again. As a treat, here's the Beatles' last live performance...

NBC’s 30 Rock presented a brilliant live episode Thursday night, inspired by and spoofing on the history of live TV itself. Then, three hours later, did it all over again, just as brilliantly – but by no means the same…
