How long have we been waiting for Season 5 of The Mary Tyler Moore Show? Well, the Season 4 DVD set came out in June 2006, so it was more than a three-year wait for Season 5 to hit shelves Oct. 6...

Because you can just never learn enough about duct tape, here's a new hour of Mythbusters (Wednesday at 9 p.m. and midnight ET, Discovery) in which Adam and Jamie somehow manage to keep their giddy tests of this beloved product down to the show's usual hour length...

While the Warner Bros. studio was making a mint making gritty gangster pix in their 1930s heyday, they were also making "prestige" pictures with one chameleonic actor...

The boys are back in town. South Park returns with new episodes Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central. Tonight's Season 13 entry may be hitting two trendy birds with one stone...it also involves ghost hunters, another current reality TV obsession...

Think "sports documentaries," and you think of elegiac baseball histories or NFL Films mythologizing that game into a patriotic religion. Certainly ESPN hasn't done much to change this perspective, but maybe that's changing...

He's been dead for 80 years, but he's still a singular star. Lon Chaney again takes the spotlight for Turner Classic Movies this October, being Hollywood's creepiest continuing presence...

Oh, it's sooo tempting: Here's another killer season of Dexter! Michael C. Hall's performance will slay you! Guest star John Lithgow is lethal! The twists and turns are brilliantly executed!...

While Bianculli tracks the big-name shows coming up on the networks and cable, I prefer to travel the tube's backroads, seeking slightly more obscure stuff worth watching. So I'll match him 15 for 15 with these (less obvious) September TV treats...

Diane Werts

Associate Editor
Diane Werts has been glued to the tube since she can remember, growing up in a household where the TV came on first thing in the morning and stayed on till bedtime and beyond. She worked for the USA Film Festival, then for The Dallas Morning News writing about everything from Shakespeare to macrame art to rock music (and has the hearing loss to prove it). She moved to New York's Newsday to edit their glossy TV magazine, then returned to writing about television, specializing in its stranger permutations. She's a past president of the Television Critics Association.
