Looking for a Free Ride? HBO Can Deliver
At this time of year we're used to seeing unique promotions for new and returning shows. But HBO's two-day stunt to publicize the third-season premiere of the Prohibition-era drama Boardwalk Empire is definitely an ambitious mix of technology and creative thinking.
The cable network has teamed up with private driver app Uber to provide New Yorkers with a free lift in a vintage 1920s Packard, Cadillac or Rolls Royce. Rides are being offered Thursday and Friday (Sept. 13 and 14).
Cars are being driven by chauffeurs in period costume, and participants have the option of a post-ride photo op. Inside the car, riders can watch Boardwalk Empire's season three trailer and previous season recaps. The gangster series returns with new episodes on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
To participate, just download the Uber app, set your location and choose your car. Pickups are only available in Manhattan between midtown and SoHo, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. We're guessing that there will be a high demand for the free rides, so reserve a time early or risk being left high and dry.
If you happen to catch a ride during the promotion, we'd love to see a picture of you posing with your classic car. Share your pic with us on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.
