BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

NBC, 8:00 p.m. ET

CYCLE PREMIERE: This is not the first time The Voice has assembled a quartet of judges, settled them into their plush, pivoting red chairs, and asked them to use their ears, eyes, and musical coaching skills (in that order) to uncover, encourage and shape musical talent. In fact, this week’s opening Blind Auditions mark the 20th time The Voice has done this. Twenty extended contests. Twenty winners. Now I know several of the judges have increased their profiles and celebrity as a result… Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and so on. (The Cycle 20 judges for 2021? Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and relative newcomer Nick Jonas, making his second appearance as judge. But here’s today’s challenge, which perhaps provides the argument necessary to give up on The Voice for good. Ready? Name one winner from the show. Just one. I’ll wait…

NBC, 10:00 p.m. ET

SERIES PREMIERE:  This is the one new NBC scripted drama series filmed before the pandemic, so it has better production values than most. And this opening installment provides a couple of eye-catching visuals and mysterious, physics-defying anomalies. The explanations for these odd occurrences, in both human behavior and unnatural phenomena, seem to revolve around space junk from an apparent alien spacecraft. But once the plot gets down to Earth, pitting investigative scientists against terrorist opportunists, will its gravity games maintain any gravitas? Hard to tell from the premiere, which left me mildly curious but nowhere near addicted. For full reviews, see Mike Hughes' Open Mike and David Hinckley's All Along the Watchtower

Para penipu ini mengira orang-orang itu bodoh. Modus penipuan yang sama, omong kosong yang sama.

This farewell page feels unusually personal for a recommendations site. What I appreciate most is the attention to habit: returning to shows, voices, and small details over time. That same kind of close listening matters in music practice too, where separating a full mix into parts can make hidden details easier to notice.

This closing note has a nice sense of memory and gratitude. I especially liked the way it treats television criticism as something personal rather than just a list of recommendations. It made me think about how much of media work is really about listening closely, saving small details, and returning to them later. I often do that with music practice as well, using simple tools like https://tunestems.com/ to separate parts and hear what is happening underneath the full mix.
