TCM, 6:00 a.m. ET
Today on TCM’s “Summer Under the Stars,” it’s a 24-hour helping of movies starring or featuring Natalie Wood. Watch her, especially, at 1:30 p.m. ET in 1955’s iconic Rebel without a Cause, at 3:30 p.m. ET in 1965’s Inside Daisy Clover, filmed a decade later – and at 8 p.m. ET, from 1956, her small but crucial supporting role in The Searchers (pictured), one of the best Westerns ever made, starring John Wayne and directed by John Ford. And stay up past midnight, until 12:15 p.m. ET, to watch Wood in 1962’s Gypsy, playing burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee in a filmed version of the musical, with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
HBO, 8:00 p.m. ET
Daniel Kaluuya of Get Out and Black Panther and Jodie Turner-Smith star in this story, with a screenplay by Lena Waithe of The Chi, about a first date that goes horribly wrong, and turns into a sort of Bonnie and Clyde fugitives-on-the-run movie. Directed by Melina Matsoukas, who advanced to feature films after directing many ambitious music videos for Rhianna and Beyoncé.
