It’s Game 4 of this year’s series – and the way the Detroit Tigers started out this World Series, there may be two places on TV tonight to tune in and watch The Walking Dead. The Tigers have home-field advantage for tonight’s contest, but the San Francisco Giants, right now, continue to enjoy the advantage that counts the most: number of World Series games won.
AMC, 9:00 p.m. ET
This isn’t the only Sunday night series capable of taking your breath away with its sudden surprises (see also: Showtime’s
Homeland). But boy, has this been a strong season so far for this intense zombie drama. In just two weeks at a new setting, it’s given us television’s best and most violently dramatic prison series since HBO’s
Oz.
CBS, 10:00 p.m. ET
For this 100th installment of The Mentalist, the producers decided to celebrate by looking backward. Tonight’s installment is a special flashback episode, showing how Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) first came to join the CBI investigative team. One thing that’s a blast from this past: the hairstyles.
HBO, 10:00 p.m. ET
This series, with all its various subplots and storylines, is presenting its finest season yet, as almost every major character is in pursuit of something difficult to obtain – whether they be leads in a journalistic investigation, collaborators in an ambitious musical project, the right costume for Mardi Gras, or the right employees for a new local restaurant. Tonight, there’s movement in all those areas – including Fats Domino, guest starring as himself, as a possible musical participant in Davis’ proposed musical salute to New Orleans.
Showtime, 10:00 p.m. ET
Last week’s episode stunned me. Carrie (Claire Danes) made contact with Brody (Damian Lewis) and agreed to meet him as part of an undercover operation to regain his confidence. Instead, after suspecting he had sensed her true motives, she went to his hotel room and pounced. The implication, and the expectation, was that Carrie, given their torrid and troubled shared past, would pounce sexually. But she had other plans – plans that make tonight’s episode the Must-See-est of all of Sunday’s many Must-See TV shows.
