The Missles of October
July 9, 2012  | By David Bianculli

THE MISSLES OF OCTOBER — 2012 is the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the 38th anniversary of this superb made-for-TV movie, a behind-the-scenes play-by-play account (based in part on Bobby Kennedy’s Thirteen Days) of the administrative decisions, and arguments, surrounding the most intense nuclear standoff in world history. It’s like a riveting cross between The West Wing and 24 – and much better than the 2000 Thirteen Days movie. This 1974  telemovie stars William Devane as John F. Kennedy, and Martin Sheen – who would later ascend to the presidency on The West Wing – as Bobby. DB  (Click here.)
