All Trumped Up for Saturday Night
Alec Baldwin has assumed the role of Donald Trump for the presidential sketches on SNL this fall, and maybe after, if needed. Opposite Kate McKinnon’s well-known portrayal of the socially awkward, over-starched Hillary Clinton, the pair were all the talk of the Sunday political shows. That highlights, perhaps, SNL’s historical role in campaigns where satire is often valued by the larger political media. Whatever side you’re on, you have to admire the SNL writer’s ability to recap the spirit of the 90-minute debate in a few minutes of comedy. —Eric Gould
