Another Presidential Star is Born
John Oliver pointed out recently that it would have been supremely geeky of Last Week Tonight to rush out to the Hall of Presidents and First Ladies going-out-of-business auction in Pennsylvania to buy one of the presidential wax figures like Rachel Maddow, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert did. So instead, he bought five. Oliver’s favorite, an oddly sculpted likeness of Warren G. Harding, was put to good use: to be the first to star in a biopic of the lessor-known commander in chief with some Hollywood heavyweights along, including Laura Linney, Anna Kendrick, James Cromwell and Michael McKean. While using a pack of standard film trailer tropes (including the ubiquitous “'Le Carnaval des Animaux,' The Aquarium," by Camille Saint-Saëns) Harding touches on some of the president’s infamous indiscretions.
