Baseball is in the air, and on the sports pages, again, which is the perfect time to revisit Baseball. Ken Burns and company, after producing such superlative and exhaustive works as The Civil War, did it again with this outstanding 1994 documentary series – and did it again, again, with a short “10th Inning” sequel in 2010. Both elements are present in this boxed set (which currently is available on Amazon at a half-price discount), and it’s worth it for Buck O’Neil alone. If you saw this miniseries, you know what I mean. If you don’t know, you should, and here’s the place to correct that oversight, with a series that, as with almost all of Burns’ work, gets down to a compelling series of stories about race and place. – DB
