"Be Life" Joss Whedon Tells Wesleyan Grads
June 4, 2013  | By Al Mannarino

Geek god Joss Whedon — the man behind TV faves Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse, as well as the ultra-clever Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and the blockbuster film The Avengers — set out to inspire the graduates at his alma mater, Wesleyan University, this past week with a uniquely-themed commencement address. The class of '87 alum reminisced about the message he absorbed on his graduation day from speaker Bill Cosby, then told the 2013 graduates: "And so, what I’d like to say to all of you is that you are all going to die." Whedon went on to discuss life’s contradictions and offered the graduating class one final encouragement: "Don’t just live. Be that other thing connected to death. Be life. Live all of your life. Understand it, see it, appreciate it. And have fun." You can read the full transcription on the Wesleyan University website.
