SERIES PREMIERE: This new Netflix series is a collaboration of some of the genre’s top-flight talents. The Wachowskis, the siblings behind The Matrix, and J. Michael Straczynski of Babylon 5, have created this new series about an octet of strangers living in various spots of the world, linked by a singular vision (of Daryl Hannah, a powerful but troubled telepath) and about to share visions of one another’s lives. It’s a slowly unfolding sci-fi drama, but one populated by interesting characters (watch for Tina Desai as a young Indian woman in Mumbai, and as part of a sudden seeming trend, Jamie Clayton as a transgender blogger). Co-stars include Freema Agyeman from Doctor Who and Naven Andrews from Lost, and one of the big attractions here is the aggressive and beautifiul on-location filming from all around the globe. Regardless of what happens over the course of this series, Season 1 of which is streamed beginning today, Sense8, and its story of people suddenly linked emotionally and mentally, may be TV’s most daringly ambitious filmed-on-location series since I Spy.
