We’ve arrived at that point – another penultimate episode for another season of another excellent TV drama. This time it’s The Americans – and this time, it features the return of a long-missing, long-missed character: Margo Martindale as Soviet handler Claudia.

The show is building to a climatic end of the season. The weight of the secrets on relationships are beginning to take their toll. It is in our nature to seek truth. As the characters move towards their truth they are drawn to those that matter most, putting themselves at risk. Taking a step at a time without knowing where all of it leads. We are reminded it is a bloody game. Are they parents trying to stop their child or are they spies fearing for their lives. The show holds the dynamic tensions on all fronts as the worlds begin to collide (as George would say). Is it the relationships and their connections that win out or does the darker side take control?
