JAMES BAKER: THE MAN WHO MADE WASHINGTON WORK
March 24, 2015  | By David Bianculli

PBS, 8:30 p.m. ET

This new documentary profile looks at the career, and political tactics, of James Baker, who worked for several U.S. Presidents – running President Gerald Ford’s re-election campaign, serving as chief of staff (among other posts) for both Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and even serving as chief legal counsel to George W. Bush during the 2000 election recount. Though Baker served on the Republican side, the title of this study suggests and recalls an era, apparently a distant memory already, in which opposing sides of Congress managed to get along, and get things accomplished.
