GREAT PERFORMANCES: “BARBRA STREISAND: BACK TO BROOKLYN”
November 29, 2013  | By David Bianculli  | 2 comments

PBS, 9:00 p.m. ET

Barbra Streisand was 69 when she filmed this 2012 concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, and demonstrates how to hold a large crowd (19,000) without expending Mick Jagger-like arena energy. She does it with her voice, and a few guests (including her son, Jason Gould, singing solo and with his mother) – and with some very funny vintage film clips. Not of her, but of old fans from Brooklyn. Songs include “The Way We Were,” “My Funny Valentine,” and “Funny Girl.” Check local listings.

The one and only. No screaming, no cuss words, no obscene gestures, no overly-loud music assaulting the ear-drums - JUST PURE TALENT AND A ONCE IN A CENTURY VOICE. Everyone else merely aspires.

Barbra's voice and range were spot on! She truly has no equal in her stage presence and ability to perform. She shared her magnificent gifts with humor and a sense of humility which charms the world. And she gave other performers a lesson in grace and use of her lifelong talent, even if she did not intend to: take good care of yourself and stay with loving, caring people. Thank you, Barbra, for sharing your talents and inspiring us!!
