It’s getting almost commonplace all of a sudden: a new TV series arrives from a streaming video service, or other alternative means of delivery, that is more polished, and more interesting, than most of the stuff being offered by traditional broadcast networks. This time it’s Bosch, a new detective series based on the novels by Michael Connelly. Connelly is involved in this adaptation, as is producer Eric Overmyer, whose credits include Treme, Homicide: Life on the Street and another personal favorite, The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd. And the star is Titus Welliver, who’s really strong here in the title role, playing a dedicated cop with a somewhat tragic past. If you don’t recognize his name, you’ll almost certainly recognize his face. And the series starts with style, in the middle of a stakeout that becomes increasingly involved. All 10 episodes of Season 1 are available today, so, if you’re so inclined, you get to claim that, at some point in your life, you Bosch-binged.
