THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW
November 23, 2013  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

BBC America, like the BBC itself, has outdone itself celebrating the golden anniversary of Doctor Who, which premiered in England on this date in 1963. That even goes to Graham Norton’s talk show, which has been positively delightful this season. Tonight, his guests include the two most recent actors, as of yesterday, anyway, to have played The Doctor: David Tennant and Matt Smith, the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, respectively. On the same couch, at the same time. Though time, to a Doctor Who fan, is entirely relative…

I've been a fan of Graham Norton's show for a year. He is a great host with the canny ability to engage ALL of his guests in conversations that are interesting to them AND to the audience. Guests can interact with each other, the host AND the audience. Much more interesting than the ONE host and ONE guest conversations. Great combination of funny, serious, camp and music. And yes, sometimes a little over the top. But NOTHING compared to the foul TV humor one tends to see on US shows.
