THE GREAT MARTIAN WAR 1913-1917
August 2, 2014  | By David Bianculli  | 2 comments

BBC America, 9:00 p.m. ET

Okay, this is just weird. This 2013 Canadian film is a faux documentary, “interviewing” historians about a reimagining of World War I. Instead, after alien spacecraft land in the forests of Europe, the conflict instead becomes Worlds War I, as former enemies unite on the battlefield to take aim against deadly weaponry from outer space.

Anyone know if the DVD is available to purchase? I thought it was great! Worth seeing again.

A monumental waste of anybody's two hours of life. It is a hodepodge of ideas from HG Wells' War of the Worlds crammed into a WWI framework, lacking in internal logic. It recycles the same footage ad nauseum between "interviews" with "participants," more than any other show that has done such recycling. Do your life a favor, play with the kids, read a book, get a root canal, anything but this.

Personally, I like the way the Martians are designed and the fact that it's not just the spiders. There's Martian Louise which looks like a rolly pollie, then there's Martian Voos, and there's Martian Heron, the big boi. You probably won't see this, considering this was posted in 2014.
