It was way back in 1988 – more than 25 years ago now – that Winona Ryder teamed up with Shannen Doherty and Christian Slater for one of the earliest “mean girls” movies. Doherty is by far the most famous of the snooty Heathers (the others are played by Lisanne Falk and Kim Walker), but the most memorable part of this movie is its defiant darkness: It looks for laughs within the subject of teen suicide.
