THE XXII OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES

NBC, in prime time beginning at 8 p.m. ET, tonight presents the gold medal final for the men’s snowboarding halfpipe event – a competition that has drawn complaints from U.S. team members all during practice runs and competition, because of conditions at the halfpipe itself. There’s also a prime-time NBC medal round in women’s ski jumping, but you have to go online – to NBCOlympics.com – to see either Russia or Norway compete today in men’s curling. Yesterday, during CNBC’s coverage of an opening-round USA men’s game, host Fred Roggin joked that NBC stood for “Nothing But Curling.” Would that that were true. While the U.S. gets followed, there’s no place today on the network, or any of its sister networks, to follow the Norway or Russian teams (unless they're facing the U.S.), both of which provide extra rewards for watching them: the latter for its exuberant crowds, the former for its extraordinary uniforms.
