SONS OF ANARCHY

Last week’s installment of this series dropped my jaw lower than any TV moment this season, thanks to an unbilled, unforgettable guest appearance by Walton Goggins, who’s done such fantastic work already on Justified and The Shield. Reteaming with Kurt Sutter, one of the former writer-producers of The Shield, Goggins showed up playing a transgender escort named Venus Van Damme, who figures in the motorcycle club’s blackmail efforts for a city councilman. Goggins, as Venus, was so outrageous and yet so grounded, so playful and yet so serious, that the character simply has to make a return appearance. Shane, Boyd and now Venus. How has this guy not won a Supporting Actor Emmy yet?

A credit for Goggins did run, in closing credits. I guess they didn't want to give pre-show billing to keep us from looking for him. Because it took a few moments to figure out just who it was under all that make-up and... uh... padding. (And more butt than we've seen from him previously, eh?)
