THE 74TH ANNUAL TONY AWARDS
June 7, 2015  | By David Bianculli

CBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth are the hosts of this year’s Tony Awards, which promise excitement on both the drama and musical sides of the fence. With drama, there’s the question of whether Bradley Cooper will win for his starring role in The Elephant Man, or whether another familiar film face, Bill Nighy, will win for Skylight. Actresses, too, are well-represented by screen stars, including Helen Mirren in The Audience, Elisabeth Moss in The Heidi Chronicles, and Carey Mulligan of Skylight. And on the musical side, Chenoweth’s campy turn in On the Twentieth Century is challenged by Kelli O’Hara’s more classic one in The King and I, while Best Musical nominees include An American in Paris and Fun Home. Definitely a Tony show to watch – as are they all.
