WINGS
February 19, 2013  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

TCM, 9:30 p.m. ET

It’s getting near the end of TCM’s 31-day salute to the Oscars, and tonight it’s time to show the film that won the first Best Movie Oscar ever presented. It’s 1927’s Wings, directed by William A. Wellman, the story of two WWI pilots in love with the same woman. The midair action sequences dazzled audiences at the time – but I remain more dazzled by Clara Bow, who plays the female part of this particular romantic triangle.

I can’t believe that I spaced TCM’s 31-day Oscar salute. I even remember one of my friends I work with at DISH reminding me, and I still missed it. I do plan to watch all the Best Movie Oscar winning movies, so I’m adding them all to my Blockbuster @Home queue. I get my subscription through DISH, and since they have over 15,000 titles, I’ve had no trouble adding Wings and the others. I can only imagine how hard it would be to find so many titles from one place, so I’m glad that I can get them all mailed right to me.
