THE MOVIES: "THE SEVENTIES"

I’m really looking forward to this episode, because the 1970s were a hugely important period for the cinema. Some of the best and boldest movies of modern times came from that decade, from Dog Day Afternoon, Klute and All the President’s Men to A Clockwork Orange, The Parallax View and Deliverance. But that type of filmmaking was set aside, for the most part, by the arrival of the blockbuster movie, a box-office-shattering phenomenon that included Star Wars and was inaugurated by Steven Spielberg’s brilliant, still-thrilling seafaring drama, Jaws. Every summer since it came out, I’ve watched Jaws at least once. And I’m due again…
