THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL
Amazon Prime Video, 3:00 a.m. ET
SEASON PREMIERE: This Emmy-winning Amazon series returns for a new season at full speed, with a big splash, and with a Season 3 opener that had me laughing out loud several times during the hour. The setting, for most of it, is a USO tour performance, for which the still-on-the-rise Mrs. Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan, nailing every single scene) takes the stage in front of a gaggle of fevered servicemen, and charms them. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino both writes and directs the opener, which allows all the main characters (and even some of the occasional supporting ones, such as Jane Lynch and Luke Kirby) to sparkle, snap and hurl some very clever one-liners. One sample: When the title character is offered to be escorted to the green room before her USO appearance, she tosses back, “It’s the Army. Isn’t every room a green room?” For full reviews, see David Hinckley’s All Along the Watchtower and Mike Hughes’ Open Mike.
