FRONTLINE: “LOVE, LIFE, & THE VIRUS”
August 11, 2020  | By David Bianculli

PBS, 10:00 p.m. ET

Tonight’s Frontline comprises two short documentaries. The title film, Love, Life, & the Virus, tells a story that’s almost too horrific to complicate: A woman is due to give birth soon when she, her husband and older son all become infected with COVID. She ends up giving birth on a ventilator and spending weeks in a coma, awakening to learn the fate of her newborn baby. Nicest of all Spoiler Alerts: Because she and her family were isolated while fighting to recuperate from the virus, the mother learned that her son’s schoolteacher had volunteered to care for the baby for six weeks. The other film, Undocumented in the Pandemic, tells another harrowing story – this one about an immigrant family whose father is detained in an ICE facility where COVID is spreading rapidly. Check local listings.
