GALAXY QUEST
September 3, 2020  | By David Bianculli

BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

I’ve made it no secret that this 1999 movie, a love letter to Star Trek and its fandom, has a warm place in my heart. Tim Allen stars as the William Shatner-ish star of a Star Trek-ish sci-fi series, who gets whisked away, along with his other TV “shipmates,” on a real-life adventure in outer space, with the world at risk and only the show’s loyal fans in place as a possible lifeline. The supporting cast – Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, Enrico Colantoni, Missi Pyle, Justin Long – manages to contribute mightily, with each and every one of them becoming an invaluable part of the ensemble. Never give up. Never surrender. And never, never miss Galaxy Quest when it’s being televised.
