THE BOYS IN THE BAND
Netflix, 3:00 a.m. ET
SPECIAL PREMIERE: This new 2020 adaptation of Mart Crowley’s seminal stage play, first mounted off-Broadway in 1968, includes among its producers Ryan Murphy, of Pose and Glee fame. Crowley himself adapted his play for this new Netflix screen version, but he died in March, so didn’t live to see its streaming premiere. The play, about a group of gay men who start drinking and talking during an increasingly intense birthday celebration, was a rare voice from the gay community then, and today serves as both a comedy-drama and a history lesson. Stars include Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, and Andrew Rennells.
