Last week, 60 Minutes presented a tribute to long-time correspondent Morley Safer, which he was able to watch and enjoy: “It’s been a wonderful run,” he wrote afterward, in what would be his last missive on Twitter. Safer died Thursday at age 84, after presenting 919 stories on 60 Minutes since joining that show is 1970. Before that, his most famous story, his “Zippo report” from Vietnam in 1965, almost singlehandedly turned Vietnam into “the living-room war.” No doubt, 60 Minutes will say farewell to Safer again tonight, perhaps more briefly but certainly more formally.
