CATASTROPHE

SEASON FINALE: Season 2 of this very clever, delightfully acted Amazon comedy series arrives today acting more like a sequel than a continuation – but that’s not a complaint, because it works beautifully. Last season was about an American named Rob (Rob Delaney) who hooked up with an Irishwoman named Sharon (Sharon Horgan) during a business trip to London – and accidentally got her pregnant, after which he returned to London, hooked up some more, and eventually got married. Now, as we begin the new episodes, it’s three years later, and Sharon and Rob have a second baby, a houseful of unwanted relatives, and a new raft of problems, including her postpartum depression and an in-law with dementia. So why is Catastrophe so much funnier than that sounds? Sample an episode – even the sex is hilarious. And the stars also are the writers, so they deserve multiple rounds of applause. The entirety of season 2 is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
