2015 REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
December 15, 2015  | By David Bianculli

CNN, 8:30 p.m. ET

Tonight marks the final Republican presidential debate of 2015. But don’t get too excited, because that still leaves at least seven months before the political conventions, and 10 full months and a week before the presidential election of 2016. In other words, plenty of time for more and more talk. But as times change, so do political fortunes. For tonight’s debate, Donald Trump retains his central position, but Jeb Bush has been pushed more to the fringe, with Ben Carson and now Ted Cruz flanking Trump on either side. As the musical chairs shift, and reduce in number, candidates feel pressured to say something to stand out. But when the guy in the leading position is Trump, and is saying the things he’s been saying lately, how in the world do you trump Trump? And, considering the political repercussions, do you want to?
