DUNE
November 13, 2015  | By David Bianculli

BBC America, 8:00 p.m. ET

David Lynch directed this 1984 movie adaptation of the Frank Herbert sci-fi classic – it was recut without his approval before release, so the narrative may be even stranger and harder to follow than in the director’s original vision. But with David Lynch, almost anything he directs is worth examining and savoring, and Dune, at least in large chunks, is no exception. Start with Kyle McLachlan, who would also appear as the star of Lynch’s Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks. Then look, just for fun, for Patrick Stewart and recurring Lynch actors Jack Nance, Everett McGill and Dean Stockwell. Oh, and Lynch always casts fascinating women, and that’s true here as well, starting with Francesca Annis, Linda Hunt and Virginia Madsen.
