SERIES PREMIERE: What I said yesterday on NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross in my fall TV preview there still holds: “This week, if you see only one new TV series – and, to be honest, that’s about all you should see – make it The Muppets.” Even Pepe the Shrimp made me laugh, and the fact that Kermit’s new brown-haired receptionist girlfriend bears a resemblance not only to Miss Piggy, but to Jenna Fischer’s Pam from NBC’s The Office, is the sort of satirical subtext that makes me 100 percent sold on this new Muppets incarnation.
