NATIONAL LEAGUE BASEBALL WILD CARD GAME
October 7, 2015  | By David Bianculli

TBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

Last night, the Houston Astros dispatched the New York Yankees rather easily in the American League’s wild card game, winning 3-0 and getting the only run it would need in the first pitch of the second inning. So the Astros are in orbit, and the Yankees are grounded until next year. Meanwhile, tonight, the National League mounts its do-or-die, one-shot trip to the 2015 postseason, as two pitching aces face one another. The Pittsburgh Pirates have Gerrit Cole, who has a 19-8 record and home-field advantage. And the Chicago Cubs have Jake Arrieta (pictured), who is 22-6 this season and, for the second half of the season, has an ERA of 0.75. Among starting pitchers playing more than 10 games in that half, it’s the lowest ERA since… well, ever. Don’t expect a high-scoring game. Do expect an intense one.
