THE TOMMYKNOCKERS
September 19, 2015  | By David Bianculli

El Rey, 12:00 p.m. ET

This 1993 Stephen King miniseries, presented today in its entirety on El Rey, has an awful lot in common with the most recent, just-concluded King TV series, Under the Dome. Weirdly glowing objects from outer space cause humans to behave strangely, taking them over and even making them turn on one another. In Tommyknockers, it boosts their intelligence, and sometimes their sex drive, all for some eventually revealed nefarious purpose. As with most King miniseries and series, Tommyknockers starts intriguingly, starts sagging around the middle, and ends closer to preposterously. But check out the stars here: Jimmy Smits, Marg Helgenberger, Joanna Cassidy, E.G. Marshall and Traci Lords. If that doesn’t help you the next time you play Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, you’re not playing correctly.
