IN THEIR OWN WORDS
September 8, 2015  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

PBS, 8:00 p.m. ET

Last week’s installment in this new PBS series profiled Queen Elizabeth II. Tonight’s presents a close-up profile of another type of royalty: Muhammad Ali, one of the biggest global superstars ever. And using his own words, in this case, is sheer poetry – often literally. Check local listings.

Based on last week's QEII installment, I'm trying to imagine the pitch meeting: "We're going to hear from a lot of historians, but most of the information will come from the narration. There will be almost nothing of the subject beyond a handful of audio clips and some superimposed quotes. We're calling it 'In Their Own Words'." It was interesting enough, but not at all what I was expecting. Here's hoping to hear more from/of Ali.
