Bob Simon Outtake from 'American Masters'
February 14, 2015  | By David Bianculli

In 1998, the excellent PBS arts anthology series American Masters profiled CBS News behind-the-scenes icon Don Hewitt in an installment called Don Hewitt: 90 Minutes on 60 Minutes. One of the subjects interviewed for that program was CBS foreign correspondent Bob Simon, who died Feb. 11 – and American Masters has released a five-minute video in Simon’s memory. It’s an outtake from his interview for that 1998 program, in which Simon describes his circuitous route from a planned career in academia to the network newsroom at CBS. – David Bianculli
