On the Tuesday, Mar. 6 edition of NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross, the second half of the show is devoted to my interview, conducted last week, with an actor, an author, a Broadway star, recording artist, movie actor, commercial spokesperson and TV icon.
And they're all the same guy -- William Shatner...
I don't want to spoil the fun by detailing the subjects, much less the specific answers, in our conversation. Let's just say, if you tune in -- or click HERE to catch the show online, after about 5 p.m. ET -- you'll hear an old TV clip or two, a piece of music or two, and, quite definitely, an unexpected remark or two.
Interviewing William Shatner one-on-one for the first time after all these years, I must say, not only was a lot of fun, but was, at times, a bit like riding a rodeo bull. There were moments, more than one, when a seemingly straightforward question led to a wholly unpredictable reply, that it was all I could do to hang on, listen closely, and hope for the best.
The main hook for the interview was his one-man show, which this weekend begins a nationwide tour after a limited run on Broadway. It's called Shatner's World: We Just Live In It.
After talking to the man, and being equally impressed by his memory and his energy, I'd say that stage show's title has it just about right.
