Stephen Colbert Pays Tribute to Boston
April 17, 2013  | By Eric Gould

Here's Stephen Colbert's cold opening from Tuesday night's Colbert Report, in which he comments on the Boston Marathon tragedy. In the tradition of many comedians who have gently brought humor to us in a time of tragedy, Colbert stepped up and did a winning job, observing that whomever planned the attack obviously didn't know how tough Bostonians are and how quickly they would rebound. After all, Boston's endured an 86-year losing streak with the Red Sox and a 15-year traffic jam while the Big Dig tunnel was under construction. Colbert joked that some commuters were just getting home now from those delays. (The project finished almost 10 years ago.) The clip is running on the home page of Boston.com, and those of us who live in Boston are passing it around — and sharing it with others.
