I'm very, very proud to point out what's going on around here.
Our TV WORTH WATCHING contributors are on top of breaking news. Tom Brinkmoeller, in his latest RAISED ON MTM column, puts the latest scheduled CBS morning-show shift in a context that's both impressive and depressing. Bill Brioux, in his latest TV FEEDS MY FAMILY report, salutes Leslie Nielsen, who died Sunday, and recounts his memorable interviews with the playful actor.
And today on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross, I interview Bob Hirst, long-time general editor of the Mark Twain Papers. We talk about his team's Autobiography of Mark Twain Volume 1, which Twain insisted would not be published until 100 years after his death. So it wasn't, until now -- but now that it is, it's a New York Times best seller...
Mark Twain is my favorite author, and getting to talk Twain on Fresh Air, with the guy who's overseen the publication and editing of Twain's writings for 30 years now, is one of my most honored, unexpected radio experiences. (The other, tapping into another lifelong passion, was doing a report on the 40th anniversary of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which you can find on the FRESH AIR FAVES part of this website.
You can hear my Twain interview with Bob Hirst on Wednesday's Fresh Air -- or, after about 5 p.m., you can hear it HERE. And after listening to the interview, if you want to buy the Twain autobiography for yourself, or as a present, you can do that HERE. I highly, highly recommend it.
