Gilligan and 'Breaking Bad' Aren't Through Yet - At Least Not on 'Colbert'
First Vince Gilligan won an Outstanding Drama Series for Breaking Bad. Then he ended his series, brilliantly. And to complete his terrific trifecta, he made a wild appearance on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report.
At the end of the show, after a warm and very smart interview with Gilligan, Stephen Colbert waved goodbye to his studio audience and left the set -- whereupon he worked his way to a door leading to a dank basement, where Gilligan was chained and leashed, Jesse-like, next to his laptop. What followed was funnier than any new network sitcom this season.
Colbert's interview with Gilligan, by the way, was itself fantastic -- with Colbert making better insights, and asking better questions, than anyone did on a season's worth of AMC's Talking Bad. The comic capper was the scene-stealer, to be sure, but also treat yourself to the interview itself, which had such impressive insights as Colbert wondering if Walter White, in addition to having cancer, had become a cancer.
Damned good, Stephen. And damned good, Vince.
