David’s had his ups and downs this summer with a recent illness and continues to be on the glowing upswing. (He sends his regards from the lounger.) And we’re betting he’ll get a boost with the announcement yesterday that ABC has won a three-way bidding contest for the new sci-fi drama thriller series, Doomsday. That’s because it’s co-written by his son, and former TVWW columnist, Mark Bianculli.
But Armageddon-ahead-of-myself. (Yeah, that’s one of David’s…)
Doomsday imagines a top-secret think tank assembled after 9/11 to game out any and all man-made disaster scenarios possible in an effort to create a database of countermeasures against them. The material is then considered to be too dangerous, and the project is sealed and shut down.
This is only the start, of course. When a catastrophe occurs that seems ripped from the Doomsday project, the government learns the files have been hacked, and has to reassemble the Doomsday team to prevent the oncoming disasters of their own engineering.
Doomsday is headed by producer Carol Mendelsohn (CSI, Game of Silence). Bianculli (above left) is co-writing the series with VJ Boyd (Justified, above right).
Mark has obviously found his niche in Hollywood. His new film, The Good Neighbor (co-written with Jeff Richard) stars James Caan and is premiering this fall.
And oh yeah, second son Dylan just arrived, too, to Mark and wife Jessica. Sort of a busy week.
