Jon Stewart returned to the anchor desk of The Daily Show Tuesday night after a three month absence. Thanking the audience, he said, “I’ve missed you so much. You don’t know what it’s like in the real world. Nobody applauds every stupid [expletive] thing that you do.” This opening bit has Stewart lost in multiple personalities – even descending into a Miley Cyrus get-up – unable to regain his Daily Show persona. After that, he dove right in with his usual comic acuity, covering the debate over military action in Syria and interviewing the head of the U.N. refugee agency in Jordan. –Monique Nazareth
