High Steaks Radio: My Rib-Eye Discussion with Mark Bittman Replays on 'Fresh Air'
September 2, 2011  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

ribeyeraw.jpgI'll be posting two interesting student blogs this weekend, but right now, on Friday morning, I'm diving into hosting NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross. So for the moment, I'll leave you with a link to a story the show ran yesterday... a rerun of my conversation with cookbook author Mark Bittman, in which I had a very animated discussion about grilling steaks...

You can listen to the seven-minute conversation by clicking HERE. I love it not only because of the topic, but because of the way Terry introduced the piece, which was the closing segment of our "All You Can Eat" week. And I especially adored the way she disavowed the recipe, in no uncertain terms, at the very end. Made me laugh, a lot.

The entire hour, by the way, along with the entire week of food-related shows, can be found and heard HERE.

Once again, Best Bets is right on target.

To see Lonesome Dove and Beach Blanket Bingo on the same venue make me look twice. We all know how great Lonesome Dove is, and hopefully we all know how bad BBB is.

Pointing out the supporting cast is great. I've seen this dog a few times, and forgot all about that. This is one of those movies that is perfect if you're running a high fever, and just don't have the strength to deal with the remote. And your mention of Where the Boys Are made me laugh out loud; that one is just packed with "stars" from yesteryear. It's one of those movies that's just so bad it's good. I'm embarrassed to say I probably saw it in the movies with a bunch of my girl friends, and loved every second of it. Ah, teen angst.

Thanks, as always, for your terrific Best Bets.

[I never thought I'd get thanks for pointing out "Beach Blanket Bingo" -- but this site's wonderful readers are no less surprising than I hope we writers are. And sooner or later, when all the behind-the-scenes tinkering gets done, Best Bets WILL have a regular place for comments. Until then, keep sliding them in wherever you can fit them. They're nice to get, and fun to read... -- DB]

Our ribeyes are in the fridge; we' ll let you know what we think next week.
Have a glorious Labor Day weekend.

[PLEASE check back, and see if you're as knocked out as I was by the finished product -- and how wary of the "raw" product. I'd love to hear! -- DB]

Thanks for answering my tweeted plea for help on this. My ribeyes will be starting the next leg of their journey to table later this evening.

I'll keep you posted.
