It was 45 Years Ago Today
August 8, 2014  | By Eric Gould

August 8 is the 45-year anniversary of what many think is the most famous photo in rock n' roll history -- The Beatles' Abbey Road cover photo with the band walking through the intersection at Abbey Road studios in London. Here's a handmade fan montage of that photo shoot with little seen copies of the boys queuing up to cross over (chatting with a local lady) and one fascinating pic of them walking in the reverse direction of the album cover. You might even go along with the conventional interpretation of the photo of a funeral procession, with John leading the way as minister, Ringo as the undertaker, Paul (feeding into the "Paul Is Dead" rumors at the time) as the barefoot corpse, and George picking up the rear as undertaker. (At least all that makes sense if you view the final album being the death of The Beatles as band.) This video also finishes with a clip from the late Linda McCartney's handheld film of the last meeting of The Beatles as a group. You can see a live Abbey Road cam here. –Eric Gould
