It happens more than I'd care to admit, and it definitely occurs with Ed Martin's newest Ed Martin's TV Mix dispatch, which links Justin Timberlake's recent breast-grabbing misbehavior at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards to his infamous Super Bowl "Nipplegate" incident with Janet Jackson.

This behavior is not at all surprising given the glut of reality tv that saturates the airways day and night, not to mention some of today's musical offerings. It's unfortunate for kids growing up in this climate that they won't be exposed to good taste and standards unless, that is, they have parents who insist on it.

Kids need to understand things in context. And, unfortunately, what is being held up today as role models is quite disturbing. I'm glad Reese Witherspoon spoke out about girls in Hollywood; Reese has been in the business since she was a kid, but she has always maintained an air of grace and dignity. More power to her.

I'm not a doddering old fogey, but I'm saddened at what we've devolved to relative to some of our entertainment. When the "F" word can be used at the Oscars, well it just gives me an idea how far we've slipped. No matter how the "F" word is used, it just isn't funny. And speaking of funny, my Gold Standards are still the likes of Jackie Gleason, Lucy and Carol Burnett. Can you imagine any of them dropping the "F Bomb"? And, shockingly, they were all consistently funny... Go figure...

I'm glad my kids are grown
