MEL DOES FRANK
December 11, 2012  | By Eric Gould

Mel Brooks gives TVWW's David Bianculli a new exclusive interview this week on the release of his new HBO special, Mel Brooks Strikes Back. For part two of the interview, Mel discusses the release of his collection DVD, The Incredible Mel Brooks (which TVWW reviewed here in November.) One of the highlights of that DVD is Mel's impression of Frank Sinatra doing "America the Beautiful", with Frank suavely botching and ad-libbing lyrics all the way. The version on the DVD is from a 1976 appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, while this one here is from ABC's The Dick Cavett Show, undated, but from the same decade. Mel tells David he finally let his acting chops roll in the 70's and he was glad he waited. –EG
