Wednesday night at 10 ET on TNT, Men of a Certain Age presents its second-season finale, with Ray Romano's Joe competing in the qualifying round for golf's Seniors Tour. Meanwhile, today on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross, I talk to Ray Romano about his excellent drama series, his life and his career. Just some middle-aged guys sitting around talking -- just like on his TV show...
We recorded the interview yesterday (Tuesday), and I'm not sure what will make the cut in today's program. Hear it on your local public radio station, or check in HERE after about 5 p.m. ET Wednesday to hear the interview.
But here's one story I'll share regardless. Part of tonight's Men of a Certain Age season finale includes a montage in which Romano, as Joe, putts and chips a bunch of shots as he makes his way through the qualifying round. Some of the images, Romano admitted freely, were created in post-production using computer graphics, and others were the result of multiple tries and multiple takes.
But one lengthy, off-the-green, into-the-cup chip, filmed in an unbroken wide shot (and seen at top above), was indeed all Romano: first attempt, long chip, right in the hole. Everything went right, right from the start.
Just like on his new series. And his old one, Everybody Loves Raymond.
Nice guy. Nice conversation. Tune in and enjoy...
